Prof. Shahid Javaid Akhtar graduated with distinction from Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad, Pakistan, in 1987. After completing internship in Surgery and Medicine, he opted for Dermatology as his medical specialty and joined King Edward Medical College / Mayo Hospital, Lahore, under the supervision of Prof. Tahir Saeed Haroon to complete his residency training.
In 1994, he completed fellowship (FCPS) in Dermatology from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, and joined Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, as Senior Registrar. After selection by the Punjab Public Service Commission, he took up employment at Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad in 1996, where he continues to work — currently as Professor and Head of Dermatology.
He has special interests in lasers, skin surgery, and contemporary dermatological teaching and training, and is actively involved in academic and research activities, with a number of local and international publications to his credit.
